SOCCER: Salthill Devon manager Emlyn Long with Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly ahead of their FAI Cup clash with Tipperary's St. Michael's

After taking a short end-of-season break, Salthill Devon return to action this Saturday (19th July 2025) when they host Tipperary's St. Michael's in Round 2 of the FAI Men's Cup.

Both non-league teams have been consistent performers at the business end of the junior competition in recent years, and one will qualify for the last-16 of the senior event.  Salthill Devon were junior semi-finalists this year, St. Michael's won the final in 2019.

Salthill Devon wrapped up last season with victory over Mervue United in the league title race, after beating Liffey Wanderers 2-1 in the FAI Cup thanks to goals from Timmy Molloy and Darren D'Arcy.

SOCCER: Former Galway United and Republic of Ireland star Julie-Ann Russell looks ahead to Galway United's trip to Athlone Town with Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly

Galway United head to the home of the league champions this Saturday (19th July 2025) when they go up against Athlone Town in the SSE Airtricity League Women's Premier Division.

The Tribeswomen have won four of their last five games, following a mid-season slump, and are currently third on 22 points, nine behind their opponents.

Athlone Town have only conceded two goals this season and were 3-0 victors when they visited Galway back in May.

At the end of the last season, Julie-Ann Russell was among the goal scorers in a 3-2 victory for Galway United, before announcing her retirement from club and international football.  She caught up with Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly to tell us how things have been going since and to look ahead to the trip to Athlone.

RUGBY: New Connacht Head Coach Stuart Lancaster Chats to Galway Bay FM's William Davies

Connacht Rugby's announcement back in June (2025) that former England head coach and Leinster senior coach Stuart Lancaster caught a lot of attention.

Lancaster brings experience probably not seen by any of his predecessors, including leading his country into the 2015 World Cup, helping Leinster to four PRO14 titles and the 2018 European Champions Cup, and he recently served as head coach in Racing 92 in France.

His career spans over 20 years, and he'll have responsibility for defence as well as his Head Coach role.

Connacht will start the European Challenge Cup away to Ospreys on Sunday, 7^th December, before hosting Georgia’s Black Lion six days later.

Connacht then head to Montpellier on Sunday, 11^th January, before welcoming French side Mont-a-bán on the 17^th.

LGFA: Galway under-16 joint manager Eugene Kearney looks ahead to their All-Ireland B Final against Armagh

Galway under-16 joint managers Paul Jordan and Eugene Kearney have made two changes for their All-Ireland B Final against Armagh on Wednesday (16th July).  Caherlistrane's Ciara O'Neill is named at corner back, while Dunmore MacHale's Eva Daly plays corner forward.

The Tribesgirls were 4-10 to 3-9 victors over Westmeath in the semi-final, and are looking to achieve national success in the 'B' competition for the first time.

Armagh won the All-Ireland B crown in 2024, and in a repeat of that fixture, beat Waterford 2-14 to 1-5 to get back into the final.
