Galway United Women Begin FAI Cup Journey On Saturday

Galway United Women travel to the Athlone Town Stadium on Saturday evening when they take on the home side in the First Round of the Sports Direct Women's FAI Cup.
It is a month since Phil Trill's side won the All-Island Cup and last Saturday beat Cork City 3-0 at Eamon Deacy Park with the goals coming from Jenna Slattery who scored two and Lynsey McKee.
The Galway United Manager has been speaking to John Mulligan ahead of Saturday's game.

It’s first against third tomorrow night as Galway United welcomes Cobh Ramblers to Eamon Deacy Park in the Airtricity League First Division.
United are sixteen points clear of Waterford who are second with nine games left in the season and with Waterford away to Bray Wanderers, United must keep their good run of form going to make sure of the title.
United beat UCD 5-1 on Monday night to advance to the Quarter Final of the FAI Cup and have drawn Dundalk in the Quarter Finals. But for the next three weeks, the focus will be completely on the league with United playing Longford Town and Bray Wanderers in the next two weeks.
United Manager John Caulfield has been speaking to John Mulligan.

Yvonne Comer elected first ever Woman President of Corinthians RFC

History was made last night at the AGM of Galway Corinthians with the announcement that Yvonne Comer was elected as President of the Club, the first woman to be elected president since the club was founded in 1932 and only the fourth in the history of Connacht Rugby to be president of a club in the province. The other three were Liz Brady in Westport, Deidre Whyte in Ballina and Jean McConnell in Sligo.
Ann Heneghan served as president of the Connacht Branch from 2020 to 2022.
Yvonne takes over from Brian Murphy for the 2023/24 season and speaking to FYI Galway this afternoon, The new president of Corinthians said it was an honour and a privilege to be elected.

A Series of events to raise money for Lakeview School will take place tomorrow night and on Saturday afternoon.
First up will be a questions and answers session featuring Galway United legends Gerry Daly, John Mannion and Tom Lally will take place at the Claddagh Hall, Galway, at 8pm.
That will be followed by a game at the Swamp on Saturday between West United and OLBC O40's at 1pm.
Gerry Daly played 209 times for United, scoring three goals
He featured in the 1985 FAI Cup Final for United, as well as the 1986 League Cup Final and European Cup Winners Cup appearances against Lyngby of Denmark.
He is organising these events in memory of his brother Dave who died last June.
Gerry came into studio and spoke to John Mulligan.
