Tributes have been paid this afternoon following the passing of Monsignor Dermot Maloney of Tuam. A champion swimmer himself, Monsignor Maloney was heavily involved in the Tuam Swimming Club and was very influential in saving Tuam Swimming Pool some years ago when Galway County Council proposed closing it down in 1971.
As an administrator, Monsignor Maloney was president of the Irish Amateur Swimming Association, now Swim Ireland in 1976.
Norma O’Rourke is the chairperson of Tuam Swimming Club.
She paid this tribute when speaking to John Mulligan.

FAI Cup Semi-Final Draw - The Galway United Reaction

Galway United has been drawn to face Bohemians in the Semi-Final of the FAI Cup with the game taking place on the weekend of the 8th at Eamon Deacy Park.
The draw was made this afternoon at the FAI Headquarters in Abbottstown by the president of the FAI Gerry McAnaney and by the Assistant director of football with the FAI Shane Robinson on FAI TV.
The other Semi-Final will see Cork City at home to St Patrick’s Athletic.
After the draw, John Mulligan got the reaction of Galway United's Colm Horgan.

Niall is from Oranmore and is a member of Athenry Golf Club.
He is responsible for selecting and running Irish Golf teams for competitions all over Europe and the world.
Niall spoke to Gerry Murphy and George McDonagh.

The draws have been made for the Brooks Senior Hurling Quarter Finals, The WINAHOMEGALWAY Intermediate Quarter Finals and the Brooks Senior B Semi-Finals.
They took place at Duggan Park on Sunday evening following the last of the Preliminary Quarter Finals between Sarsfields and Killimordaly.

Friday the 15th of September 2023 will be a date that will be forever etched in the minds of Galway United supporters all over the World.
In Eamon Deacy Park, John Caulfield's side booked their place in the FAI Cup Semi-Final for the first time in fifteen years when they destroyed Dundalk 4-0.
The last time United were at this stage of the competition was in 2008 when they lost 1-0 to Derry City.
Later that evening, it emerged that Waterford, second to United in the league, lost 2-0 to Cobh Ramblers meaning that United needs just a single point from their game with Kerry on Friday night next to clinch the First Division Title and automatic promotion to the Premier Division.

The Special Guest on Over The Line on Monday night was none other than Galwegians, Lansdowne, Connacht and Ireland legend Eric Elwood.
During his playing career, Eric played 35 times for Ireland and was part of two World Cup Squads in 1995 and 1999.
After retiring, Eric became head coach of Connacht and was head coach when they qualified for the Heineken Cup for the first time.
He joined George McDonagh and William Davies in the studio to talk about his career.
