HURLING: Galway Masters captain David McDonagh with Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly ahead of their All-Ireland championship clash with Cork

After their opening round defeat to Tipperary, Galway's Masters Hurling Team are back in action on Saturday (14th September 2024) when they host Cork.

Ben Mangan's charges still have four games to get back on track for an All-Ireland Final appearance in October but could do with a result against the Rebels.

Turloughmore's David McDonagh was announced as the new Galway captain two weeks ago and will lead out a team that includes many past Galway seniors.

He's had time playing in Australia as well as on the field and behind the scenes with his clbu and he joined Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly for a chat on 'Over The Line.'

SOCCER: Galway United midfielder Patrick Hickey with Galway Bay FM's Mike Rafferty after being named the August Soccer Writers Player of the Month

Galway United's Patrick Hickey was named the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month for August on Thursday (12th September).

He scored two key goals for John Caulfield's men - the win over Derry City, and the draw against Shamrock Rovers.

After receiving his award, Patrick Hickey sat down for a chat with Galway Bay FM's Mike Rafferty.

PARALYMPICS: Athenry cyclist Ronan Grimes with Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly reflects on the Paris Games, his career and retirement

After competing in four events and two consecutive Paralympic Games, Athenry's Ronan Grimes announced his retirement following this month's road race at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The Orwell Wheelers cyclist only took up cycling 15 years ago but went on to win nine World Championship medals as well as the 2022 C4 Gold medal and he followed that up with European success in the time trial.

At Tokyo three years ago, he came 4th in the Individual Pursuits as well as a 6th, 11th and 15th in three other disciplines.  He just missed out on the bronze medal in the 2024 Individual Pursuit as well as competing in the track and road time trials.  A puncture denied him a top-10 place in the men's road race in Paris.

Ronan chatted about returning to normal life with Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly.
