Galway opened their Allianz National Hurling League Division 1 season with a facile win over Westmeath in Pearse Stadium on Saturday.
In a game that they were never troubled, goals from Jason Flynn with two and one each from Conor Whelan and Cianan Fahy along with 11 points from Evan Niland saw Galway run out winners by a whopping 31 points in a game that featured scores from 12 separate players.

Kinvara Hockey Club about to embark on next stage of securing their own pitch

In their 40 years in existence, Kinvara Hockey Club have fought to have a home ground of their own since the days of the grass pitches in Seamount College.
However, the club have moved one step closer to achieving that dream by securing a site and obtaining planning permission to build their new facilities.
On Saturday the 10th, the club will host a launch night for members of the community where plans will be revealed to go to the next stage.
Called #LetsBuildIt the club will be joined by the CEO of Hockey Ireland Anne McCormack,
Chairperson of Kinvara Hockey Club Fiona Rodgers and teacher at Seamount College and coach at Kinvara Lorraine Feehily joined John in studio as part of Saturday Sport to talk about the upcoming plans.
