LGFA: Salerno manager Dan Stephens after their Connacht PPS Junior C Final win over St. Nathy's Ballaghderreen

Jesus and Mary Salerno were crowned Connacht Post Primary Schools Junior C Ladies Football champions on Wednesday (28th January 2026) following this four-point victory over Roscommon's St. Nathy's after extra-time.

They kept their opponents scoreless during the final 10 minutes of the added period and afterwards, manager Dan Stephens gave his thoughts on the game.

Connacht rugby had an eventful week with the news that Bundee Aki recieved a six-match ban (two suspended) ruling him out of Ireland's opening three Six Nations games against France, Italy and England, as well as this Saturday's trip to Zebre in the BKT United Rugby Championship (31st January 2026).

Match officials filed the misconduct complaint after Stuart Lancaster's team went down to Leinster at the Dexcom Stadium last week.

Galway Bay FM's William Davies joined Darren Kelly on 'Over The Line' to chat about the news during the week and look ahead to Zebre versus Connacht.

COMMUNITY GAMES: New Galway chairperson Stephen Nolan chats to Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly

At the third attempt last Wednesday (28th January 2026) in the Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry, Galway county Community Games finalised their 2026 committee, guaranteeing the games will continue in the county.

Garret Byrne from Kinvara was named as the new secretary, while Claire Towey Burke took the role of PRO.

Oranmore-Maree's Stephen Nolan was elected as the new chairperson and tells Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly that it's great to be in his role and he's looking forward to the  year ahead.

TRIATHLON: Galway's Beginners Officer Claire Heskin and Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly chat about the return of 'New To Tri'

Galway Triathlon Club will host its annual “NEW TO TRI” evening in the Commercial Boat Club, Woodquay on Tuesday, February 3rd from 7:30pm – 9pm.

The event is designed for those considering taking up triathlon, as well as anyone interested in swimming, cycling, or running who would like to build new skills, meet new people, or train as part of a group.

With nearly 200 adult members, Galway Triathlon Club is active across all three sports with weekly training sessions held across the city. From coached pool sessions and fully supported sea swims, to group bike spins, indoor cycling, strength and conditioning and both long-run and track sessions, the club offers training opportunities for all levels, from complete beginners to experienced athletes.

Whether you’re already an avid swimmer, cyclist or runner, or haven’t sat on a bike or dipped a toe in the sea since childhood, Galway Tri Club’s friendly, social environment helps new members achieve their first triathlon goal with confidence and support.

2026 Beginner's Officer Claire Heskin joined Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly, who said it was hard to believe the year had come fully around and an opportunity for many new people to try a new sport has returned.

The NEW TO TRI event is free to attend and open to anyone interested in joining the club or learning more about the sport. The evening will include a general introduction to triathlon, training tips, demonstrations and an opportunity to speak with club members and coaches.
