A group of students from St Brigid’s College in Loughrea will fly to Saudi Arabia tomorrow to represent Ireland in the largest STEM competition in the World: the F1 in Schools World Finals.
The team, known as Team Resiliath, won the F1 in Schools National Title in Galway last year and not only are they taking on the best in the world, but they will also be attending the Qatar Grand Prix.
Formula 1 in Schools operates in over 45 countries, challenging young people to work in teams and engineer their own miniature CO2-powered F1 car, capable of travelling at speeds in excess of 140km/h.
They also use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacturing, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership/teamwork, media skills and financial strategy, and apply them in a practical, imaginative, competitive and exciting way.
St Brigid’s College has had success in this competition in the past, with Team Quintolux finishing second in the World in 2021 and Victorum finishing fourth in 2017.
In fact, St Brigid’s has won the National Title six times in the last seven years: Victorum in 2017, CJJ Auto Vinco in 2018, CJJ191 in 2019, Quintolux in 2020, Vortenova in 2021, and most recently Resiliath in 2023, which saw them qualify for this year’s World Finals.
Team Resiliath is:
Sole Lopez - Marketing and Social Media
Dahami Perera - Team Manager and Innovation lead
Om Yadav - Logistics and Resources
Bibin Binu - Design Engineer
Aisling Corry - Manufacturing and Sustainability lead
