The Search is on for Ireland’s Kicking King!
Thursday Aug 10, 2023
Thursday Aug 10, 2023
Ireland’s Kicking King, an initiative from Leader Kicking, comes to Dangan Sportsground on August 14th as they continue their search for potential American Football kickers in Ireland.
Leader Kicking was founded by former Connacht and US Rugby player Tadhg Leader in 2022 to create a path for potential Irish punters and kickers. The initiative has looked to select some of Ireland's best GAA, Rugby and soccer talent over this period.
Despite its short existence, the Galway native has already unearthed some serious talent with former underage GAA stars Ronan Patterson and Ross Bolger securing Division 1 scholarships in top US College programs.
Ireland’s Kicking King is currently touring the country with anyone over the age of 15 of any gender encouraged to attend. Whether you are a talented young person, or you're a 50 year old who has a good strike of a ball, and everyone in between, this event is for you!
The goal is to create a fun environment where people from any sporting background can give kicking American Football a try.
The top performers from each regional location will compete alongside the best performers from across the country in Energia Stadium on August 25th in front of thousands of fans as we will provide Half Time entertainment for the Global Football showcase which features teams from across the world.
In addition, Ireland’s Kicking King 2023 winner will be flown to America, put up in a hotel, and be given an experience at a Pittsburgh Steelers NFL game.
Despite being on the road for less than a week, Ireland’s Kicking King is taking social media by storm with two of its videos in the past week breaching the magic 1 million views mark.
Tadgh spoke to John about the search for Ireland's Kicking King.

Sarsfields' opening game in the Brooks senior hurling championship was postponed last week after the sudden passing of club legend Jimmy Cooney and now takes place this Saturday (12th August).
Last year's semi-finalists will be looking to atone for their disappointing display against St. Thomas in 2022. But they'll have a challenge to overcome a Tom Monaghan-led Craughwell.
Interestingly, it's the first time the sides have met since the 2015 senior final replay, when the New Inn/Bullaun outfit prevailed 2-10 to 0-14.
A few weeks ago, before Jimmy's passing, at the Brooks Senior Hurling Championship launch in Kenny Park, Sarsfields' Darren Morrissey gave his thoughts to Galway Bay FM’s Tommy Devane.

Throw-in at Duggan Park, Ballinasloe on Saturday is 5pm.
The WINAHOMEGALWAY intermediate championship meeting of Craughwell and Meelick/Eyrecourt will follow the game at 6.45pm.

The Denis Taylor Interview
Sunday Aug 06, 2023
Sunday Aug 06, 2023
1985 World Snooker Champion Denis Taylor visited Galway over the Bank Holiday Weekend as he prepared for an exhibition that he was going to be part of in Sullivans in Gort on Sunday evening.
The 1985 final is often referred to as the "black ball final" and is commonly considered to be the best-known match in the history of snooker and a reason for the surge in the sport's popularity in the 1980s and 1990s.
While known probably best for that final, Taylor was a highly accomplished player winning the Masters in 1987 among other titles won around the world.
Sports Editor Ollie Turner caught up with Denis at Galway Golf Club on Sunday Morning.
